Brief About Mrs. Mercy Omozuafoh
Biography
Mrs. Mercy Omozuafoh supervises the care and support activities carried out by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) in all infectious and non-infectious diseases programs across the country. She is a Senior Program Manager in the Prevention, Care, and Treatment Department and Unit Head of both Care and Support Unit and Gender-based Violence Units.
She works with a team of care and support officers to improve the retention of HIV-positive clients in treatment. They identify strategies for optimum socio-economic and psychological support, adherence to treatment, and clinical care for clients.
Her duties also include ensuring that clients who are receiving treatment for drug-resistant tuberculosis in communities have access to their medications. She supervises and provides oversight functions to community-based organizations for optimum follow-up investigations and other community wrap-around services to the clients. Mrs. Omozuafoh collaborates with other partners, funders and the government of Nigeria for successful implementation of HIV and tuberculosis programs.
Within the Institute, Mrs. Omozuafoh has held positions such as Program Manager and Program Officer in the areas of Prevention, Community Drug Resistant Tuberculosis, and Universal Precaution. In these roles, she was responsible for infection prevention and control in supported healthcare facilities. She also worked in communities to set up support groups for clients and train treatment supporters.
Her core areas of specialty and experience include infection prevention and control, waste management, community system structure, home-based care, gender, and gender-based violence programming.
Mrs. Omozuafoh has over 30 years of experience with a career stint at Lagos University Teaching Hospital and Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital. She has a bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Health from the same university. She is also a Registered Nurse and Midwife with several courses within and outside the country to her credit.
Her hobbies are listening to Christian music, farming and philanthropy. She is married with children
